QuickTakes:

In 2024, the Toyota RAV4 ended the Ford F-150's 42-year-long run as America's bestselling vehicle. Annual sales increased by 9%, compared with a 5% drop for the F-150. It's easy to see why the RAV4 is so popular, given that buyers have so many choices in configurations.

The range includes four non-electrified trim levels (the LE, XLE, XLE Premium, and Limited), seven hybrid trims (the LE, XLE, SE, Woodland Edition, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited), and two plug-in hybrid trims (the SE and XSE). That's a total of 13 trims. Here's a detailed breakdown of what you get with each one.

LE

The entry-level RAV4 starts around $31,000 and comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) and an eight-speed automatic transmission come standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available for an additional $1,400.

Standard features include 17-inch steel wheels with plastic hubcaps, daytime running lights, tinted windows, LED headlights and taillights, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, three USB ports, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, a six-speaker sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and eight airbags. The Toyota Safety Sense suite of electronic driving aids, which bundles features such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control, is also included.

Like every member of the RAV4 range, the LE also gets a no-cost maintenance plan valid for two years or 25,000 miles from the date of purchase and a 24-hour roadside assistance plan that's good for two years without a mileage limit. These services are bundled under the name ToyotaCare.

XLE

The XLE starts near $33,000 with FWD (AWD is a $1,400 option) and the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It builds on the LE with 17-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, heated door mirrors with integrated turn signals and blind-spot monitoring, trim-specific cloth upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a cargo cover, five USB ports, and push-button start.

XLE Premium

Priced above $35,000, the XLE Premium gets 19-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, a moonroof, a power-operated liftgate, SofTex upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a soft-touch dashboard, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It shares its drivetrain with the LE and XLE.

Limited

The $39,000-plus Limited offers metallic gray exterior trim, puddle lights in the door mirrors, chrome trim on the exterior door handles, heated and ventilated front seats, a memory function for the driver's seat, dark-brown interior accents, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.5-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. It shares its drivetrain with the XLE Premium.

Hybrid LE

Every RAV4 hybrid (excluding the plug-ins) features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and a nickel-metal-hydride battery pack. The system's total output checks in at 219 horsepower, and a motor on the rear axle gives the RAV4 hybrid through-the-road AWD. The system is capable of powering the RAV4 on electricity alone for short distances.

The base, $34,000-plus RAV4 Hybrid LE stands out from the RAV4 LE with 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, active grille shutters, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a hybrid-specific display in the instrument cluster.

Hybrid XLE

The Hybrid XLE mirrors the XLE but adds active grille shutters and a hybrid-specific display in the instrument cluster. Its base price is near $36,000.

Hybrid XLE Premium

The Hybrid XLE Premium starts above $38,000 and stands out from the XLE Premium with 18-inch wheels, active grille shutters, and a hybrid-specific display in the instrument cluster.

Hybrid Limited

The most expensive non-plug-in RAV4 is the Hybrid Limited, which starts above $42,000. It's identical to the non-electrified Limited trim, except it adds 18-inch wheels and a hybrid-specific display in the instrument cluster.

Plug-in Hybrid SE

Both variants of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid use a 302-hp plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a CVT, and a lithium-ion battery pack. AWD comes standard, and Toyota quotes an electric-only range of 42 miles.

Priced above $46,000, the Plug-in Hybrid SE comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, tinted windows, acoustic noise-reducing front side windows, LED headlights and taillights, a power-operated liftgate, cloth upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a leather-upholstered steering wheel, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, a six-speaker sound system, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite of electronic driving aids.
