QuickTakes:

With the new 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, a Ram performance truck equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 is back in the lineup. Not only that, but the new Ram TRX relaunches Stellantis' Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division, bringing even more power and performance to the full-size pickup.

Increases of 75 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque ensure blistering acceleration on the pavement, and the new TRX screams to 60 mph a second sooner than the original-recipe TRX. Meanwhile, it remains a true off-roader, equipped with hardware that makes desert running a delight and trail crawling effortless.

Ram TRX History and Perspective

Ram made a bold claim when it introduced the original TRX to the 2021 Ram 1500 lineup. Equipped with a supercharged Hemi V8 engine sourced from Dodge's Hellcat-powered Challenger and Charger models, that first TRX made 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, enough to launch the hulking truck to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Ram called it "the quickest, fastest, most powerful mass-produced truck in the world."

And it was.

The TRX departed Ram's lineup after the 2024 model year, following a run of 4,000 "Final Edition" versions of the truck priced at $119,620. Undoubtedly, those folks are thrilled with the arrival of the more powerful and less expensive 2027 Ram SRT TRX.

In 2025, the Ram RHO arrived with TRX styling but a less powerful engine. Nevertheless, that twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder made 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque and could get the RHO to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds — while averaging 15 mpg in combined city and highway driving. That means the RHO was a click slower to 60 but got an extra 3 miles on every gallon of gas. The Ram RHO was also substantially less expensive, at $72,090.

The RHO should have been a Category 5 hit. After all, it was more affordable, more efficient, and essentially just as fast and capable. But Ram customers love their loud and thirsty Hemi engines, so the twin-turbo replacement — dubbed the Hurricane — swirled around like an off-shore tropical storm.

What's New for the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX

Now, the TRX is back, but it's not the same truck it was. The changes to the resurrected 2027 Ram SRT TRX include the SRT badge, which signals a more powerful version of the supercharged Hemi V8, rumbling and whining from beneath the bulging hood. It makes 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, and Ram says that's good for a 3.5-second run to 60 mph.

Don't line up with a GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Rivian R1T Quad Motor, or Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, though. Ram might refer to the TRX as an "apex predator" (T-Rex), but that's only in the gasoline-fueled realm. Those three electric trucks will suck the TRX's headlights out as they whoosh to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds or less.

To celebrate the TRX's return, Ram offers it in a new Bloodshot Night Edition. It's painted in Blacktop and Flame Red with splash graphics, and also has beadlock-capable 18-inch wheels, carbon-fiber interior trim, and red accents inside and out.

Other updates to the new TRX include next-generation Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shocks, more leather and suede in the fully loaded cabin, and an updated electrical architecture that makes the Uconnect 5 infotainment system far more responsive to inputs than in the past. The 2027 Ram SRT TRX also offers Trailer Reverse Steer Control technology and a hands-free highway-driving assistant called Active Driving Assist.

Faster acceleration helps to separate the Ram RHO and TRX, but so does the latter truck's standard equipment list. Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats wrapped in leather are standard, as is a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. Displays include a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, a 10.0-inch head-up display, and a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Among the few options available, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof lightens the mood in this serious performance truck.

Ram 1500 SRT TRX vs. Ford F-150 Raptor R

Ram isn't the only game in town when it comes to V8-powered performance trucks. The Ford F-150 Raptor R is the natural alternative to the SRT TRX, even though it costs substantially more. The Ford's supercharged 5.2-liter V8 cranks out 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft, and can't match the Ram's 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. But generally speaking, aside from the Ford's inferior value equation, these two trucks are competitive with each other.

"Nothing Stops Ram" is the truckmaker's new tagline. Obviously, to lend credibility to the company's advertising, a revived TRX had to be quicker than a Ram RHO, more powerful than a Raptor R, and worthy of a fresh claim that it is "the fastest and most powerful production gas pickup truck in the world." Will Ford have something to say about that? Probably.
