The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric offers a battery-powered alternative to the traditional gas-fueled GLC compact SUV, maintaining the brand's reputation for luxury while sticking closer to its traditional design handbook than the automaker's past electric vehicles have. It's a powerful, handsome, and useful vehicle for buyers seeking to free themselves from the tyranny of the gas pump. It also delivers a respectable range and quick charging capacity, two musts among premium EV models.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Design

At first glance, the GLC Electric shows several key differences from the gas-powered version of the SUV, while also bearing a strong family resemblance that keeps it within the Mercedes-Benz design family, unlike past electric efforts like the EQE SUV and EQS SUV. A muscular hood draws the eye to a protruding grille (framed by a large chrome surround), and the rear lighting offers another major point of distinction between the two GLC versions.

The GLC Electric adds 3.3 inches of wheelbase over the gas model, which translates into roomier surroundings for its riders. Specifically, there's more headroom (1.8 inches) and legroom (0.5 inch) for front-seat passengers, with those sitting in the rear benefiting from an additional 1.9 inches to stretch out their legs and another 0.7 inch before their heads hit the ceiling. In addition to offering a full vegan interior option, the GLC Electric provides an optional Sky Control panoramic sunroof as an upgrade over the standard panoramic panel. The main difference? It transitions from dark to light and can illuminate a 162-star pattern.

Perhaps the most dazzling aspect of the GLC Electric's interior is its available MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system. This enormous display spans the dashboard as a single panel that measures a full 39.1 inches. It's also possible to spec the SUV with a similarly sized MBUX Superscreen that houses a trio of screens — a driver display, a center infotainment display, and a passenger panel — under a single large piece of glass.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Specs

When it goes on sale, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric will be initially available as the GLC 400 4Matic Electric. It features a pair of electric motors and produces 483 horsepower and 596 pound-feet of torque.  The all-wheel-drive system's primary rear motor features a two-speed transmission, with the front motor engaging and disengaging as necessary.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Performance

Mercedes-Benz estimates the GLC 400 4Matic Electric will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. The GLC Electric should also be capable when the road disappears, as it features a transparent hood view that shows the area immediately below the vehicle on the infotainment system display, and offers multiple terrain driving modes designed to tackle varied driving environments.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Range

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric debuts with a 94-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack and an 800-volt electrical system. Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce official EPA range and efficiency information for this model. However, on the more optimistic WLTP test cycle used in global markets, the GLC Electric is rated at 444 miles of range. Even if that drops by 15-20% in real world driving (which is typical for Mercedes models when comparing WLTP and EPA efficiency), that's an impressive figure that puts the GLC-Class Electric in the upper tier of EV SUVs, slotting just below the longest-range version of the Rivian R1S and slipping in ahead of the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model X.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Charge Time

The GLC Electric leverages its 800-volt architecture during charging. When connected to a DC Level 3 fast charger, it can regain about 42% of its driving range in just 10 minutes, under ideal conditions. That is thanks to the GLC Electric's maximum charging speed of 330-kilowatt (kW). On older 400-volt charging stations, it can use a built-in converter to help reduce charging times.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Towing

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric offers decent towing capability, especially when compared with other EVs. Mercedes-Benz officially rates the vehicle to tow up to 5,291 pounds of trailer weight. That’s enough to tackle a good-sized camping trailer, utility trailer, or car hauler. It's also more capable than a Tesla Model X or even the larger Mercedes-Benz AMG EQE SUV, both of which offer higher-powered variants than the GLC Electric.

SUVs are often judged by their practicality, and EVs like the GLC Electric are no exception. The GLC 400 4Matic Electric leverages the packaging advantages of its electric drivetrain to offer a frunk under its hood, using the space where a gas engine would normally sit to provide 4.5 cubic-feet of cargo room. For more serious loads, there's 61.4 cu-ft of maximum cargo space inside the vehicle with the second row folded flat and 20.1 cu-ft between the rear seatback and the liftgate.
