What's new for the 2027 BMW 3 Series? From the underlying platform that supports gasoline and electric drivetrains to its new infotainment and safety technologies, the eighth-generation 2027 BMW 3 Series is all new, from the rubber to the roof. Previously, BMW introduced the i3 electric version of the new 3 Series. This article is about the BMW 330 and performance-tuned BMW M350 gas-engine variants.

2027 BMW 3 Series Models

As of publication, BMW has announced three redesigned 3 Series models: the 330, the 330 xDrive, and the M350 xDrive. The 330 has rear-wheel drive, while the two xDrive variants have standard all-wheel drive.

All three models feature the automaker's Neue Klasse (new class) design language, a clean and modern interpretation of traditional BMW styling cues, and the automaker says the new 3 Series is slightly larger than the car it replaces. A BMW Iconic Glow package adds welcome illumination in Balanced, Relaxed, or Excited lighting effects.

Shown here is the M350 xDrive equipped with the optional M Sport Professional package.

The car shown here is the M350 xDrive equipped with the optional M Sport Professional package and, likely, an extra-cost paint color. The MSRP is likely close to $70,000.

A tri-zone climate control system is also optional, along with heated rear seats.

2027 BMW 3 Series Specs

The BMW 330 and 330 xDrive have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. The engine makes 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims the 330 will accelerate to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

Choose the M350 xDrive for a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid electrification. It supplies 437 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque, uses an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, and breathes through a four-outlet exhaust system. According to BMW, the M350 xDrive zooms to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

2027 BMW 3 Series Performance

Across the 2027 3 Series lineup, BMW has optimized the luxury sport sedan's structure, suspension, steering, and brakes to enhance the driving experience. The dynamic-tuning approach aims to sharpen handling, provide finer control over steering inputs, and allow precise brake modulation. The goal? Ensure the new 3 Series is agile, balanced, and composed in any driving situation.

The M350 xDrive, shown above, includes an Adaptive M suspension, variable-ratio sport steering, an M Sport differential, and M Sport brakes. It also gets its own suspension tuning, additional chassis bracing, and a rear spoiler to reduce lift at higher speeds. A new Drift Moment feature allows the driver to choose a rear-wheel-drive setting to easily slide the car in curves and corners.

2027 BMW 3 Series Infotainment System

The new 3 Series features BMW Panoramic Vision, shown above as a thin digital display that runs the width of the car at the base of the windshield. In the center of the dashboard, the 3 Series has a 17.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. A new Android-based BMW Operating System X powers this technology and allows owners to extensively customize the appearance and content of the displays.

Feature highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a conversational BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant enhanced with an AI-based version of Amazon Alexa, and in-car games and apps available through the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. The optional BMW Digital Premium package provides the data to power the entertainment features, BMW Maps enhancements like real-time traffic, and additional services through the My BMW App.

A Harman Kardon premium sound system equipped with Dolby Atmos technology is optional on the 330 models, and standard on the M350 xDrive.

2027 BMW 3 Series Safety Features

With the 2027 3 Series, BMW attempts to make the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) feel more natural through BMW Symbiotic Drive. Essentially, when using the car's Level 2 driving aids, Symbiotic Drive lets a driver manually correct or override the automated steering, braking, and acceleration inputs without defeating them. In other words, the tech allows human intervention without shutting down. The goal is to make the ADAS behave intelligently and unobtrusively.

Driving Assistant Plus is standard on the new 3 Series and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. Active blind-spot monitoring with collision avoidance, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and evasive-steering assist are also standard. Highway Assist is available, allowing hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph.

As of publication, BMW had not announced the trunk size in the new 3 Series. However, as seen in this photo, a handy storage net sits on the right side of the trunk, and the lid's hinges are enclosed, so you can pack it full of luggage without worrying about crushing something fragile. A 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat (shown here) enhances the car's versatility.

2027 BMW 3 Series Release Date

Production of the redesigned 2027 BMW 3 Series starts in November 2026. The automaker says the 330, 330 xDrive, and M350 xDrive will go on sale in the United States during the first quarter of 2027.

Is the BMW 3 Series a Good Car?

On paper and in photos, this new 3 Series looks like an excellent eighth-generation continuation of the car that arguably made BMW so popular in North America. If the driving experience improves as the automaker promises, the new Three will undoubtedly represent an improvement over the outgoing model.

However, the tech is a little much. I'm sure there are potential customers out there who would gladly delete BMW Operating System X and BMW Symbiotic Drive from this car, but that's not how any of this works anymore.

2027 BMW 3 Series Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 2027 BMW 3 Series release date?

The 2027 BMW 3 Series goes on sale in the United States in the first quarter of 2027. Prices for the 330 start at $51,250, including the destination charge, and rise from there.

What does Neue Klasse mean for a BMW?

Neue Klasse is German for "new class." Historically, BMW has used the terminology to mark new eras, and the current rollout of gasoline and electric vehicles wrapped in a fresh take on classic BMW styling, and infused with futuristic technology, is one of them.

How much horsepower does the new 3 Series have?

The BMW 330's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 255 horsepower, which may not sound impressive. However, the 295 pound-feet of torque is robust and delivers quick acceleration to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. The BMW M350 xDrive is legitimately fast thanks to its 437-hp turbocharged inline six, which propels it to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.

Is the redesigned BMW 3 Series a self-driving car?

You can equip the new 3 Series with Highway Assistant, which lets the driver take their hands off the wheel while the system handles steering, braking, and acceleration. However, this feature requires the driver to remain alert and ready to take control at any time.

Where is the 2027 BMW 3 Series made?

BMW builds the new 3 Series at its assembly plant in Dingolfing, Germany.
