Nissan's biggest family hauler gets a NISMO makeover.

With the 2026 Armada, Nissan takes a sharp and — some might say — unexpected detour into performance territory with its full-size SUV. Built on the bones of the recently redesigned Armada, the new 2026 Armada NISMO offers more power, enhanced handling, and aggressive styling. Whether the world is ready for a NISMO'd SUV is up for debate, but Nissan has gone all-in on the concept.

2026 Nissan Armada NISMO: More Power and Enhanced Tuning

Under the hood, the Armada NISMO features a retuned version of the SUV's standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. When burning premium gas, it produces 460 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, and that 35-hp bump comes courtesy of revised engine programming and valve adjustments.

Nissan pairs the massaged engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, and the NISMO model comes with a four-wheel-drive system. The SUV retains its towing capacity of 8,500 pounds.

Nissan says the NISMO's retuned exhaust system and standard Active Sound Enhancement system provide the Armada with a more engaging sound both inside and out. The automaker also tweaks the NISMO's steering for a sportier feel and adds an adaptive air suspension tuned for more responsive handling. Large 22-inch forged alloy wheels, wrapped in performance all-season tires, are standard.

From the outside, the 2026 Nissan Armada NISMO distinguishes itself with specific bodywork. The NISMO-designed front and rear fascias, grille, side steps, and rear spoiler add a sporty aesthetic, complemented by fender flares and red-painted brake calipers. An exclusive NISMO Stealth Gray color is available, with or without a Super Black roof.

The sporty theme carries through to the cabin, where the standard 12-way power-adjustable front seats, featuring heating and massage, are dressed in quilted charcoal leather with red inserts and stitching. Red accents are evident throughout the cabin, which also features aluminum pedals and a multicolor ambient lighting system.

Otherwise, the Armada NISMO's core layout and materials mostly carry over from other high-trim models. For example, the NISMO comes standard with dual 14.3-inch display screens, as well as an infotainment system featuring Alexa Built-in; Google Assistant, Maps, and Play store; and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. A Klipsch 12-speaker premium audio system is also standard equipment.

Unfortunately, Nissan doesn't offer ventilated front seats, a head-up display, or a dash cam on the NISMO performance model.

2026 Nissan Armada NISMO: NISMO Spirit in a Family SUV

Despite its bolder personality and street-focused tuning, the Armada NISMO remains a large, people-hauling SUV that shares the same rugged platform and packaging as its more traditional siblings. That means it features seven-passenger seating, up to 97.1 cubic-feet of cargo space, and a range of advanced technologies.

Examples include available Nissan ProPilot Assist 2.1, a hands-free driver-assistance system designed for use on the highway. A 3D Around View monitor is also standard, providing a 360-degree view of the SUV and its surroundings, along with other camera perspectives that can help simplify parking and trailer hitching.

Ultimately, the 2026 Nissan Armada NISMO straddles the line between a styling exercise and a performance SUV. Though Nissan tunes it for some added performance, the Armada NISMO is unlikely to be seen as a true enthusiast vehicle. Instead, it is a racy-looking alternative to a Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition or a Ford Expedition equipped with the Stealth Performance package.
