BMW has announced a few changes to its iX electric sport-utility vehicle for 2026, including some model shuffling. The big news is that there's a new entry-level variant that slices almost $12,000 off the starting price. Moreover, shoppers looking at the top trim level get more power and range for the same coin as last year.

BMW Reduces the Cost of Entry for the iX

For 2026, the iX lineup moves from two trims to three, with the xDrive60 replacing the xDrive50 and the M70 taking the M60's position. The new xDrive45 is now the lowest rung on the iX ladder. It opens at about $76,000, significantly undercutting the $88,000 BMW charged for the 2025 iX xDrive50, which previously served as the lineup's entry point.

All-wheel drive comes standard, as does a pair of electric motors that are good for a combined 402 horsepower. BMW says the xDrive45 can scoot from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. That's half a second off the pace of last year's 516-hp xDrive50 model, but many buyers will likely find it an acceptable tradeoff for five-figure savings.

The xDrive45 is capable of charging at speeds up to 175 kilowatts from a DC fast-charging station and can go from 10% to 80% in 34 minutes. The model's 100.1-kilowatt-hour battery provides an estimated 312 miles of range, which is a slight improvement over the 309 miles achieved by the old xDrive50.

The xDrive60 and M70 Boast Improved Power and Range

The 2026 iX xDrive60 brings with it more power and range. Compared with last year's xDrive50, the xDrive60 is up 20 horsepower to 536, and range is now 340 miles.

The xDrive60's 113.4-kWh lithium-ion battery can accept DC fast charging at speeds of up to 195 kW. That's enough to replenish the pack from 10% to 80% in as little as 35 minutes.

With a starting price near $90,000, the xDrive60 is $1,430 dearer than the outgoing xDrive50.

Then there's the M70 xDrive, which replaces the M60 as the king of the iX hill. Starting at almost $113,000, the M70 xDrive costs the same as its predecessor — but it comes with 40 more ponies, for a total of 650 horsepower, and a bigger battery that supplies 17 more miles of range, reaching 302 miles. Charging times are similar to the xDrive60's, and zero to 60 mph elapses in 3.6 seconds.

The 2026 BMW iX Will Land Later in 2025

BMW will begin production of the 2026 iX in March at its plant in Dingolfing, Germany, with deliveries anticipated during the second quarter of 2025. Those interested in lugging a trailer weighing up to 3,500 pounds behind their electric BMW may want to wait to place their order until summer, when a tow hitch will join the iX's options list.

All vehicle pricing includes MSRP plus destination charges (set at the time of publication), and will be rounded to the nearest thousand.
