Volvo resurrected the S90 nameplate for the 2017 model year, applying it to a new large luxury car. Previously used on a boxy flagship sedan in the late 1990s, Volvo now puts the S90 nameplate to work on an elegant car with flowing lines and a clean, minimalistic, and sumptuous interior. In short order, Volvo replaced the standard wheelbase S90 with an extended-wheelbase model and added a plug-in hybrid version called the S90 T8. More recently, Volvo expanded the T8 model’s electric driving range and added mild-hybrid technology to the S90’s gasoline engines. Steeped in Swedish design, the Volvo S90 offers a distinctive alternative to more common German and Japanese luxury sedans.
