“On Thursday, March 5th, I went to get an appraisal and it was good for 7 days and Carvana had the same offer. I rechecked Carvana on Saturday, March 7 and Carvana had increased their offer. I called to see if Carmax could match and they said they don’t but I can always bring it back for a reappraisal so I said I’ll come in on Sunday. When I got to the store at opening time today, Sunday, I went straight to the window where they finalize the offers and asked for the car to be reappraised. I was told that they do not do that since there is a current offer on the car. I told them that I called and that’s not what I was told. The lady at the window then said that I had to wait until the current offer expires. I took my car elsewhere and got a better offer so I sold it today. Posting this for awareness that if you get a better offer during the 7 day period of your Carmax offer, go with that. Don’t waste your time going back to try and get the car reappraise.”

“I purchased a car from them in 2022, aka the worst time to buy a used car. The car I chose had shockingly low miles for being 7 years old, and was a great price, also a surprise for the time. They even tell me it had never been in an accident! Sold. Fast forward to now and I live out of state and work for a major dealer. I decide yesterday to have the car appraised at work for a trade in. Come to find out once the carfax is pulled and shown to me, that the car had actually been in MULTIPLE accidents, and nearly every piece of it had been replaced except for the rear bumper. The last accident it had been in, it had been hit on the front and both passenger sides. The fact that this carmax completely lied about all of this has me absolutely fuming. This explains why the miles were so low, the car had spent most of its life in a body shop! The reason I decided to trade it in is because the engine was on its way out, even though the miles were still low (just over 55k) and I can't help but wonder if its because of all the previous crashes. I understand finding out about accidents that hadn't been reported, however these obviously had been as they were on the carfax. How they were able to omit that information is beyond me, but I will absolutely never trust Carmax again. You could possibly have to spend a little more money at an actual dealer, but it is more than worth it to avoid these con artists.”
