“I initially had a great experience with my purchase and got a great deal on a 2019 Toyota RAV4. Then I noticed I could not activate the Toyota services. As instructed by Toyota support, I went to a Toyota dealership to find out what was going on, only to learn it would cost $1,500 to replace the unit. I remembered I had a warranty from CarMax, so I took the car to the CarMax service department instead. It took them two weeks to get back to me. When they were ready, I waited at the dealership for three hours for the repair. Assuming it was fixed, I tested it by trying to use the SOS feature, but it did not work and the activation had failed again. Now no one from the CarMax service department will call me back. I am very disappointed in the level of service at this dealership. I expected a lot more, and they cannot properly do a repair or test their own work. The warranty team should have simply let Toyota fix it instead of leaving me hanging. Shopper beware! Update: General Manager called me followed by someone from the shop. He said someone would call me by 9 am and a minute till, they indeed called me. They did apologize for the issues I keep having with fixing my SOS and call out features. They are going to have a Toyota Dealership look at my truck and give me a loaner. So I am moving my rating to a 2 now and monitoring things.”

“Terry and Royal helped me trade my Tundra for a Tesla. Seemless, easy, fair transaction. They were both personable, helpful and went above and beyond to ensure everything was smooth. Hated to give up the Tundra, but looking forward to a new way to get around! Thanks Terry and Royal, and Carmax.”

“I had a really outstanding experience working with Terry Bobbitt at CarMax on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh. I spent a LOT of time going back and forth on my vehicle decision, test driving multiple cars, comparing options — and Terry was patient, professional, responsive, and genuinely helpful through the ~entire~ process. When an unexpected cosmetic issue came up with the vehicle I was purchasing, Terry didn’t dismiss it or pressure me into moving forward anyway. He worked with the team to get the issue properly addressed, advocated for me during the process, and made sure I felt comfortable before finalizing the deal. He also went above and beyond on my trade appraisal and overall customer experience. Buying a vehicle can be stressful, especially when it’s a major decision, but Terry made the process feel honest, collaborative, and low-pressure from start to finish. I genuinely appreciate all the time and effort he put into helping me, and I would absolutely recommend asking for Terry if you’re shopping at CarMax! THANK YOU TERRY!”

“I had a great experience trading in my car and buying from this CarMax. I was helped by Mr. Iroha, and he was kind, respectful, and helpful as this was only my second time purchasing a vehicle. I felt I got a fair deal both for my trade-in and the vehicle, and I walked out feeling excited, and whereas I had felt at other dealerships they pressured me to make a quick decision and didn’t respect my preferences. I am very grateful to Mr. Iroha for making this a great experience for me! I would highly recommend working with him.”

“Was about to buy a car this afternoon at Carmax after test driving it the other day. Had my appointment scheduled with them to gladly hand over my money in exchange for a car they claimed was accident free. After I paid to run a carfax on the vehicle (they use auto check by experian) I learned that this car had, in fact, been in an accident and had been towed away. When I noted this to the store manager they claimed that they could still price and sell the car without accidents because of the auto check service they use doesn’t show that, though he doesn’t t dispute the fact that it’s been in an accident. Moral of the story is (1) CarMax is just like every other used car dealership and (2) always run your own carfax report before making a purchase.”
