âIf I could give zero stars I would-
My husband and I recently relocated to Virginia with the military after being stationed overseas, and unfortunately our experience with First Team Subaru Norfolk has been incredibly disappointing and down right concerning since some of the issues were related with vehicle safety.
On August 5, 2025, I visited the dealership after seeing a used Honda listed on their site. However, after a few days of follow-ups, I was convinced to purchase a âBasically newâ 2024 Hyundai instead. The salesman we worked with was actually very helpful and kind â but everything after the sale has been a nightmare.
Just SIX days later (August 11), the carâs battery died completely. We brought it back to First Team Subaru, and instead of properly addressing the issue, management brushed us off and told us to take it to a Hyundai dealership. A technician in their parking lot had to come jump the car, and he even noticed a loose screw on the battery that he had to tighten himself.
Then on September 19, the right rear turn signal stopped working, then came back on randomly. The next morning, all of the lane assist and safety features shut off while driving, then came back on again.
A few days later on September 24, the front collision warning turned on for no reason â no cars or objects nearby. This is where I became most concerned since the anti collision and safety features are part of what I was sold on about the car.
By September 25, we took it to a Hyundai dealership, where we were told theyâd need to keep it for a couple of weeks or more to diagnose and fix everything. When we contacted First Team Subaru again, management told us thereâs nothing they can do and that we must deal with Hyundai because of the warranty. They also reminded us that Virginia has no return policy, essentially washing their hands of the problem.
We now have a brand-new car that doesnât work properly, are being told to wait over a month for repairs, and have to pay for a rental out of pocket â all within our first few months of being back in the U.S.
Edit***
I would also like to add soon after this post was written our driver side window exploded while driving down the highway. Initially my husband didnât know what it could have been since, it didnât really make sense. (Since itâs the side and not the windshield) After speaking with window experts and looking online we learned that having the heat on in the car vs the temperature outside is what caused the window to burst and shatter in his face. Please be aware this is a feature that we were not aware of and much like the many other issues with the car this was another and concerning surprise from this âbasicly new â car.
This experience has left us feeling taken advantage of and abandoned after the sale. For a dealership that claims to value its customers, especially military families, this was extremely disappointing. I would strongly caution anyone â especially those relocating or new to the area â to be very careful before buying from First Team Subaru Norfolk.â

âMike with sales and Sade with finance was absolutely amazing to work with. We wanted a new outback but had to take a delay with our purchase. Most dealerships treat everyone like a number and a monthly goal of sales, buy Mike was patient and understanding and held the outback we wanted for us to pick up when we were ready. Sade was absolutely spot on with finance. I dont think people in the finance department get enough praise, but I would buy another car just to get squared away by her professional. If your in the market for a new car see Mike. If you need help with your $ see Sade. Subaru is lucky to have them on the team, otherwise Id go buy a Honda.â

âWe came to the dealership just to see âwhatâs out thereâ, we have no appointment on the rainy weekend. James was walking with his big Olâ smile and welcome us right away.
We told him what we need and not even 5 minutes later, he put 2 vehicles side by side, and helped my husband with car seat and stroller. After test drive and finance-talks, we decided to go home and do some research. He didnât give any pressure at all. Came back next day to purchase 2026 Outback touring with an easy process and honest trade in values for my previous Subaru.
*have to come back the next day to update the software & attached the plate number, however, they didnât attached the plate just the plate-holder. So I have to come back another day.
Shout out to Sade in finance who helps my husband with an easy update on the paperwork.
Overall: We both very satisfied with the First Teams Norfolk.â

âCannot speak highly enough of the team of people at First Team Subaru Norfolk! We bought our first Subaru (Outback) from them a few years back and have been hooked ever since! Hubby bought his Subaru (Ascent) from there next and when someone decided to play bumper cars with my Outback causing it to be totaled, First Team was the only place I wanted to go to get my next Subaru. The team of Robbie and Keith were unbelievably helpful. So patient and willing to put up with all our craziness! They pulled several cars for us to look at, never once minding if we asked to look again/more. Getting us into the right car was their only priority! Then the finance team and manager, working with us till we got money in place. Ken you were amazing at informing us of everything payment wise and getting us all set. Robbie and Keith were so kind and knowledgeable. SO HAPPY with our purchase of our 3rd Subaru (Forester) and would not think of shopping anywhere else. THANK YOU FIRST TEAM! Youâre the BEST Team! đđ»đđ»đ Oh and the detailed/cleaning gentleman, who stayed longer than his shift to make sure of our was perfectâŠTHANK YOU! It was beautiful! You all went above and beyond!â

âI want to sincerely thank Ms. Baker for making this one of the best car-buying experiences Iâve ever had. From start to finish, she was absolutely outstanding.
If youâre ever in the market for a Subaru, I highly recommend asking for Karen Baker. She is not pushy at all, incredibly knowledgeable, genuinely kind, and extremely helpful throughout the entire process. She took the time to clearly explain all of the paperwork and did an excellent job working through payment options to find what made the most sense for me.
Buying a car can be stressful, but Ms. Baker made it smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable. I will absolutely be working with her again for any future vehicle purchases and would recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for an exceptional sales experience.â
