“I appreciate the honesty of the mechanic and service advisor Julie telling me that what they first thought was a needed repair was a new automatic feature they hadn’t known about that made it appear something wasn’t working when it was in auto mode. The inability for a customer to speak directly to the mechanic is the greatest barrier to trust in a dealer versus using an independent mechanic to whom you can speak directly. Of course any one can lie to you about unneeded repairs but it’s a lot easier if they don’t have to look you in the eye and tell you themselves.”
