“I normally try to resolve issues directly with a business before leaving a negative review, but at this point I feel other buyers should know about my experience. I purchased a 2008 Honda CR-V from this dealership for around $4,500. After financing, fees, and additional products, my total loan ended up being approximately $11,000. Before purchasing, I was told the dealership was not aware of any issues with the vehicle. The vehicle was sold as-is, which I understood and accepted. However, less than two weeks after purchasing it, the vehicle became inoperable. I brought the vehicle back to the dealership and was initially told the problem was likely a simple repair. Now the vehicle has been sent to a mechanic for a full diagnosis because the issue appears to be more serious than originally thought. The vehicle was also not fully cleaned before sale. There was paperwork from the previous owner still inside, damage to the seats, and other signs that the vehicle had not been thoroughly prepared before being sold. I have tried to work with the dealership before posting this review because I understand problems can happen. Unfortunately, I am now without reliable transportation, relying on coworkers for rides to work, and facing the possibility of job-related consequences if I cannot continue finding transportation. I am still waiting for answers and a diagnosis. I hope the dealership works toward a fair resolution, but based on my experience, I strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing a vehicle here to have it independently inspected, obtain their own vehicle history report, and carefully review all financing and warranty documents before signing. I will update this review once the diagnosis is complete and a resolution is reached.”

“This was the easiest and most pleasant car-selling experience I’ve ever had. Frank Hardwick at the Charlottesville branch was kind, considerate, and professional from start to finish. I had completed the online form before visiting and received a quote that was better than Carvana’s. Honestly, I expected the offer to be negotiated down once I arrived, but that never happened. I walked out with a check for the full quoted amount, and the entire process took only about an hour. “We had a great experience all around purchasing with CarMax. We went in on several occasions to the Charlottesville location, and all of our sales reps were helpful, professional, and not pushy in the slightest. We first went with a list of cars to check out and test drive, and the process for that was super easy, even without calling ahead or making a reservation. After we narrowed it down to a make and model, we had a car shipped from another location to test drive the specific car at the Charlottesville location. (Some cars were free to ship; we paid a relatively small fee because the car we liked best was a bit further away.) The payment process was smooth. Then, we ultimately needed help with some paperwork about a month after purchasing (something the dealership was under no obligation to help us figure out), and they went above and beyond to make our lives easier. We've put about 6 weeks of driving and about 1,000 miles on the vehicle and couldn't be happier. Overall, a great experience, and we'd happily buy our next car from CarMax in Charlottesville or another location. Painless process, helpful staff, just a positive experience from start to finish.”
