Why Do I Need to Sign A Limited Power of Attorney For My Car?

It is necessary to supply Capital One Auto Finance with a signed limited Power of Attorney to record the lien in your state.

Recording Capital One Auto Finance as the first lien holder also ensures your compliance with state and federal laws where applicable.

Complying with this request for Power of Attorney and supplying additional information required to record the lien ensures your account remains in good standing and enables us to serve you better when your contract is paid in full or you need to change your registration.

Additional documents such as: signed affidavit confirming security interest, copy of driver's license, copy of registration, copy of insurance, odometer reading, and color of vehicle may be requested of you if your state requires the documents to transfer the lien.

Refinancing with Capital One Auto Finance may not change the registered owners on the vehicle's title. Please note that only borrowers on the Capital One Auto Finance loan should be listed as registered owners on the new title issued with Capital One Auto Finance as the lien holder.  You may be asked to meet title documents at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office to complete any changes/removal of registered owners.

If you would like to update your title, please contact your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If there is a registered owner on your current title that is not applying for the loan with Capital One Auto Finance, title documents will need to be signed by all registered owners currently on title. Additional fees and supporting documentation may be required by your state to change/remove who is listed as a registered owner.
