The Capital One No Hassle Giving Site

  1. Why did Capital One develop the No Hassle Giving Site?

Capital One developed the No Hassle Giving Site to provide Capital One credit card holders with a convenient way to donate to their favorite charities. Capital One has partnered with Network for Good and GuideStar to create this site. Network for Good processes donations and disburses funds to selected charities. GuideStar provides a comprehensive database of public charities in the U.S. that are registered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

  2. What are the benefits of using the No Hassle Giving Site?

Donors have the convenience of choosing from over 1.2 million public charities in the U.S. and receiving an immediate receipt via e-mail for tax documentation purposes. Capital One credit card holders who are enrolled in the No Hassle Rewards program may earn rewards points for their donations. Charities also benefit, since credit card contributions online are a cost efficient way to receive donations.

  3. Who is Network for Good?

Founded in 2001, Network for Good is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Network for Good processes donations made through the No Hassle Giving Site and distributes them to the donor's charity of choice. While your donation will be forwarded to the charity of your choice, Network For Good-Cap One will appear on your credit card statement as the charity of record for tax purposes.

Network for Good, in technical terms, is treated as a "donor advised fund," a 501(c)(3) organization that collects contributions from donors and distributes such contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations in good standing with the IRS recommended by you, the donor.

  4. Who is GuideStar?

GuideStar is a public charity located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Founded in 1994, the nonprofits listed with GuideStar are formally registered with the IRS or have proven they meet all IRS criteria for exempt organizations. This database provides individuals with comprehensive information (such as mission statements, cost structure, annual donations, etc.) on charities that match the donor's interests

  5. What does Powered by GuideStar mean?

Network for Good's charity search relies on the GuideStar database to provide information about charities. Network for Good partners with GuideStar to help you identify verified nonprofits as recipients of your generosity.

  6. What's the connection between Capital One and Network for Good?

Capital One and Network for Good have teamed up to ensure that 100% of your donation reaches your chosen charity. Network for Good is a nonprofit organization that enables donations to 1.2 million charities. If you use your Capital One credit card, Capital One covers all transaction fees associated with credit card donations.

Donating

  1. Why should I use my Capital One credit card?

When you make a donation with your Capital One credit card through this website, more of your money goes directly to the charity of your choice because Capital One covers the transaction fees. So every single dollar you give can go to the charity you want to support. Although you can use other credit cards by donating elsewhere, up to 10% of your donation may be used to cover transaction fees.

  2. Is my Capital One card eligible?

All Capital One credit cards issued in the U.S. are currently eligible to give on the No Hassle Giving Site. Prepaid cards, debit cards, and credit cards issued in the U.K. and Canada are not currently eligible.

  3. How does the money get to the organization of my choice?

If the charity you recommended has provided its electronic funds transfer (EFT) information to Network for Good, your donation will be electronically transmitted through Network for Good's secure servers to the charity's bank account. If the charity has not provided EFT information, Network for Good will mail a check directly to the charity. Donations are sent to charities on the 15th of each month.

  4. How does the No Hassle Giving Site work?

Once you locate a charity that you would like to give to, click the Donate Now button and follow the step-by-step instructions provided. When you make a donation through the No Hassle Giving Site, Network for Good will confirm that your recommended charity is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions and will process and distribute your donation to the charity you have selected.

Your contribution is being made to Network for Good, a nonprofit, donor advised fund, which will distribute your donation to the nonprofit organization you indicated. As required by the IRS, Network for Good has exclusive legal control over any donation processed on our website.

Like any tax-deductible charitable contribution, a contribution using the No Hassle Giving Site cannot be canceled or returned once it has been completed.

  5. What does the designation field mean?

The designation field allows you to specify the program or fund where you would like your charitable dollars to go once received by the recipient organization. Network for Good passes this information along to the recipient organization via their Donation Tracking Report.

  6. Why do I receive a session time out message after a few minutes?

In an effort to protect your confidential profile information, your online session will expire after seven minutes per page. We'll let you know how much time you have left, and give you the option to continue your session or log out if you're finished.

  7. What if I have a question about donating with my rewards?

For questions about donating rewards, please call our Rewards Center at 1-800-228-3001 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–12 a.m. ET; Saturday–Sunday, 9 a.m.–10 p.m. ET). Or visit www.capitalone.com and view the Rewards Summary information after logging into your account. The "View and Redeem Rewards" link will show you available redemption items, account information, and rewards history.

  8. How do I make my donation a gift for this holiday season?

Making a gift donation on the No Hassle Giving Site is easy. First, select the charity you wish to receive the donation from GuideStar's database of over 1.2 million charities. Next, make a donation with your Capital One credit card or No Hassle Rewards with the gift recipient listed in the Dedication field. Finally, print off this No Hassle Giving Site holiday gift card, write your personalized message on the inside, and now you're ready to give the gift of giving.

Please note, any donations made as gifts can only be considered tax deductible for the donor, not the recipient of the gift. As always, please be sure to consult your tax advisor to determine exactly how you can enjoy any tax benefits.

Recurring Donations

  1. What is a recurring donation?

When you make a donation with your Capital One credit card through this website, more of your money goes directly to the charity of your choice because Capital One covers the transaction fees. So every single dollar you give can go to the charity you want to support. Although you can use other credit cards by donating elsewhere, up to 10% of your donation may be used to cover transaction fees.

  2. What are the benefits of recurring donations?

If you are committed to supporting a charitable organization over time, setting up a recurring donation account is a convenient way to have your contributions automatically charged to your Capital One credit card without any further action on your part. You will receive an e-mail receipt for tax documentation purposes every time a recurring donation is charged to your credit card. Capital One credit card holders who use are enrolled in the No Hassle Rewards program may earn rewards points, miles or cash back for their donations.

  3. How do I set up a recurring donation?

Once you identify a charity that you would like to support, click the Donate Now button. On the following page, enter the information requested, including your credit card information, the donation amount, frequency of donation, your privacy preference, your donation designation (optional), and your donation dedication (optional). You will be required to create a profile if you have not already created one and logged in. When completed, click Continue.

Next, you will see the Confirm Your Donation page. Review your donation amount and frequency, then check the box beside "I authorize this recurring donation."

Next, click Confirm Donation to finalize the donation.

  4. What is the schedule for recurring donations?

You can choose to make recurring donations on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Your first donation is charged to your Capital One credit card immediately. We cannot refund or modify donations once they are charged to your credit card, so please make any changes before the scheduled date of your next recurring donation.

  5. Do I need to create a profile to make a recurring donation?

Yes. Setting up a profile lets you manage your recurring donations as well as your personal information that is needed for billing purposes. In your profile you will be able to make recurring donations, access your donation history and check out more quickly.

  6. Will I be notified when a recurring donation is made?

You will receive an e-mail receipt for tax documentation purposes every time a recurring donation is charged to your Capital One credit card. We cannot refund or modify donations once they are charged to your credit card, so please make any changes to your recurring donation account before the scheduled date of your next donation.

If the scheduled donation cannot be processed, you will receive an e-mail notifying you of the problem.

  7. Can I cancel or change a recurring donation?

Yes. You can cancel or change a recurring donation before your next recurring donation has been charged to your Capital One credit card. You can log in to your profile at any time to cancel or change future donations. Please note that we can only cancel or change future donations. We cannot refund donations once they have been charged to your credit card, so please make any changes before the scheduled date of your next donation.

To cancel a recurring donation, log in using your e-mail address and password, then click the Recurring Donations tab. Select the donation you wish to cancel, then click Cancel Recurring Donation. You will be asked to confirm that you want to cancel this recurring donation. Click Yes, and you will see the recurring donation grayed out in your donation history.

To edit a recurring donation, log in using your e-mail address and password, then click the Recurring Donations tab. Select the donation you wish to change, then click Modify Billing Information. Please note you will only be able to update the credit card information, designation, and dedication for the recurring donation. If you would like to change the frequency or donation amount, you will have to cancel the recurring donation and create a new one.

  8. Will my credit card information be visible in my profile?

No. For your own security, credit card numbers do not appear in your profile.

Tax Benefits

  1. Are my contributions tax-deductible?

Donations made through the Network for Good Giving System are 100% tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law because Network for Good and the charities in GuideStar's database are qualified to receive tax deductible donations under the IRS rules. Also, you do not receive any goods or services in return for your donation. When you make a donation, be sure to save and/or print the confirmation screen and/or e-mail you receive from Network for Good for your tax records.

Your contribution is being made to Network for Good, a nonprofit, donor advised fund, which will distribute your donation to the nonprofit organization that you indicated. As required by the IRS, Network for Good has exclusive legal control over the donation. In the rare event that a charity you have recommended does not satisfy Network for Good's criteria for receiving donations (i.e., it has been classified by the IRS as a disqualified supporting organization, it cannot or does not accept donations, is not recognized by the IRS as a public charity, or is not in good standing with federal and state regulators), Network for Good will select an alternate charity to receive your donation funds.

Be sure to consult your tax advisor to determine exactly how you can enjoy the tax benefits.

  2. Is my donation made with No Hassle Rewards tax deductible?
Just like donations charged to your credit card, No Hassle Rewards donations are 100% tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The amount of your donation for tax benefit purposes is determined by the cash equivalent of your rewards donation as detailed in your receipt, not the quantity of No Hassle Miles or Points redeemed. As always, please be sure to consult your tax advisor to determine exactly how you can enjoy the tax benefits.
