  Q: What is 128-bit encryption?

  A: Encryption is a procedure for turning plain text or other information into an unrecognizable pattern of  data. The strongest form of Web browser encryption commonly available for use on the Internet is 128-bit.  We recommend that you use 128-bit encryption when visiting our site.

  A: Follow the instructions below for your browser.

  Netscape:
  1. Click "Log In" or "Register" from the main page.
  2. Double-click the lock in the lower left or right corner of the browser window (this lock indicates that the site is secure). A Security Information window will open.
  3. Click "Open Page Info."
  4. The following message confirms you are connecting with 128-bit encryption:
    "Security: This is a secure document that uses high-grade encryption key for U.S. domestic use only (RC4, 128 bit)."
  Internet Explorer 4.X:
  1. Click "Log In" or "Register" from the Online Account Services main page.
  2. Double-click the lock in the lower left or right corner of the browser window (this lock indicates that the site is secure). A Properties window will open.
  3. Click "Encryption Type."
  4. The following message confirms you are connecting with 128-bit encryption:
    "RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High)."
  Internet Explorer 5.X:
  1. Click "Log In" or "Register" from the Online Account Services main page.
  2. Double-click the lock in the lower left or right corner of the browser window (this lock indicates that the site is secure). A Properties window will open.
  3. Move your mouse over the lock.
  4. The following message confirms you are connecting with 128-bit encryption:
    "SSL Secured (128-bit)."
