Capital One® is partnering with America's Promise—The Alliance for Youth to sponsor the "100 Best Communities for Young People" competition. The first national competition was launched in May 2005 by its Founding Chairman, General Colin L. Powell (Ret.) as a way to recognize communities that want to help their young people realize their full potential. Capital One has committed $1.5 million to support the "100 Best" program over the next two years.
A distinguished panel of civic, business, and nonprofit leaders selected the final list of the "100 Best Communities for Young People" based on criteria related to America's Promise's five essential promises to young people: caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education and opportunities to help others. The winning communities—ranging from small towns to urban neighborhoods—were announced in September 2005. |
